Wethersfield Historical Society will present our 2015 House Tour Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 10am-4pm. This year’s tour will feature six unique historic homes that span nearly 200 years and several home styles, from a quaint, tidy, light-filled Colonial with a lovely garden framing a breathtaking view of Wethersfield Cove to a meticulously restored 1930s Tudor with a modern concept open floor plan and innovative architectural details such as hidden doors, to a one-time 1800s schoolhouse restored and modernized for gracious 21st century living.
These are homes that have kept their historical roots but have been transformed into lovely modern living spaces. The tour will also feature an early 20th century home renovated by two architects who designed and added a modern late 20th century addition to transform the look and living space of the original home. A stunning 1940 Georgian Colonial revival home built by well-known Wethersfield builder Edward Packtor with a built in pool and seasonal gardens showcases a brand new kitchen design and updated bathrooms. Lastly an immaculate 1949 Cape Cod house perfectly situated on a corner property boasts a flair for decorating with a beautifully refurbished fireplace and delightful color choices and furnishings.
Tour attendees will begin their journey in the Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center where they will present their voucher or purchase one at the door and receive the tour booklet (which is their ticket) with a map of the homes’ locations.
For $75, tour participants can join us from 6:30-9:00 that evening for a lively patron cocktail party at the gracious home of Sheila Hennessey on Wolcott Hill Road in Wethersfield, where guests will enjoy an open bar and gourmet appetizers. The patron ticket price includes admission to the House Tour. General admission tickets are $30 when purchased before Friday, June 12 at 4pm and $35 via cash or check only the day of the event in the Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center.
The House Tour is being held in conjunction with Connecticut Open House Day when the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism invites organizations statewide to open their doors to the public to encourage area residents to discover – and rediscover the fascinating world we offer right here in Connecticut. Wethersfield Historical Society will offer free admission to our Captain James Francis House, Hurlbut-Dunham House and Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum from noon-4pm and our Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center from 10am-4pm. Come join us for both events and make a day of it!
